Gearing up for the big game

As citizens around the country get ready to celebrate Sunday’s big game, the big question isn’t whether Manning or Brees will make the trip to Disney World — it’s how to best enjoy the game.
Jura Aghassi, owner of Jura’s Pizza, says the best way to see some football — and commercials — is in a big group of people. Just as for the last three years, Jura’s will celebrate Super Bowl Sunday, their biggest day of the year, with a $30 all-you-can-eat feast of tri-tip, chicken, crab legs and shrimp.
For those who prefer a liquid lunch, Jura’s will also offer $5 domestic pitchers all day and $1 domestic pints after 3 p.m. The shindig will also feature musical entertainment, but the highlight for Aghassi is, of course, the big game.
“Go New Orleans,” Aghassi said.
Many of those who prefer a cozier Super Bowl will order pizza to be delivered, in what is one of the biggest pizza delivery days in the year. Domino’s Pizza anticipates selling more than 1.1 million pizzas nationwide this Sunday, and a good portion of them will be sold right here in Turlock.
“This year, Feb. 7 is all about football, friends and hot pizza delivered right to your door,” said Greg DeGrandis, operator of the Turlock Domino’s Pizza store.
And for those that celebrate a bit too much, AAA Northern California will again offer their Tipsy Tow program from 6 p.m. on Feb. 7 through 6 a.m. on Feb. 8.
“Everybody wants to have fun at a Super Bowl party,” said Matt Skryja, spokesperson for AAA Northern California. “But if you’ve been drinking don’t get behind the wheel.”
Any drinking driver, regardless of whether or not they are a AAA member, can call 800-222-4357 (AAA-HELP) for a complementary tow home of up to five miles. The driver and vehicle will receive a one-way ride to the driver’s home, and passengers can come along as long as the tow truck has enough room.
