For the second consecutive year, a salon in downtown Turlock is giving local children in need an opportunity to ring in the new school year with a fresh cut.

Salon TwoZeroNine, located at 625 E. Main St., will be hosting the Back to School Glow Up from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 6. The event will offer free haircuts to kids while accepting donations of school supplies to award to a local teacher nominated by the community.

“We started this event last year and we received such a positive response from the community it was very rewarding,” explained owner Megan King. “As a salon, we really value giving back to the community whenever and wherever we can. We view this event as our chance to help those who may be in a rough spot financially or maybe just can’t afford the prices of a high-end salon service all of the time for the whole family. We also want to give the teachers the service they deserve because they do so much for our kids and we want the kids who come in to feel like a million bucks when they leave.”

Appointments must be made for students receiving their free haircuts. They can be made by calling or texting (209) 648-3751. Teacher nominations can be sent through email at SalonTwoZeroNine@gmail.com.

“It’s the best feeling in the world to make a child’s day and help them feel special on their first day of school,” King added. “We just love having the privilege to be the service providers to make them feel like that, at least once a year.”
