Hilmar residents can clean-up for reduced prices

Hilmar will host a clean-up day from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, offering residents the opportunity to dispose of tires, appliances, and other residential waste at a reduced rate.

In association with the Merced County Department of Public Works, a 40 yard bin will be placed at Hilmar Community Center on Faulke Street to accept trash that day. A full carload of refuse can be dumped at that location for $1. Pickup truck loads are just $2, while trailer loads are $3 if under 8 feet in length, or $4 if greater.

In addition, a special grant from the State of California will allow for free disposal of up to four passenger tires per load. Disposal of further tires will cost $1 per tire.

The clean-up day will not accept household chemicals, any liquids, including oil waste or automotive fluids, heavy equipment, tractor tires, treated wood, or commercial loads. State law requires all loads be covered during transportation.

The clean-up day is part of Merced County’s ongoing community clean-up program.
