The Kiwanis Club of Greater Turlock hosted its annual holiday shopping spree for children at Kohl's on Tuesday.

Thirty children, from fourth to sixth grades, were aided by adult volunteers and members of the Kiwanis Club to pick out clothes. Later, the children were treated to a free meal at Chili’s.

Coordinator Mary Ann Urrutia has been involved with the event since 2004, and believes that the shopping spree's success is due to the community involvement.

“This is the one treat they get; just the look on their faces, smiling and excited. We work all year for this, and the community helps. We are giving back to the community,” Urrutia said. “We strive to do that.”
