Iconic south side market reopens
National Market 1
The National Market, at 1290 East Ave. in Turlock, is once again back in business (KRISTINA HACKER/The Journal).

For decades, National Market on East Avenue was a staple for Turlock shoppers in search of fresh, quality meat and a staff that feels like family, but after 68 years in business owner Don Ow closed the store in summer 2019.

Turlock shoppers can once again take advantage of fresh produce, an excellent meat counter and grocery staples thanks to Paul Singh and his partner Mike Singh, who recently reopened the National Market.

The Singhs are not new to the grocery business, as they have owned the Denair Market for the past 25 years.

Paul Singh said that they thought buying the National Market would be a good expansion.

The National Market’s famous meat counter is already regaining its popularity (KRISTINA HACKER/The Journal).

“We're offering everything, basically, whatever a supermarket has, but a small supermarket, so sodas, beer, chips, meat, charcoal, groceries produce, dairy, frozen food,” he said.

Singh said that the meat counter has already regained its popularity.
