Motor transport operator Lance Cpl. Chris Sanchez backed up a tactical vehicle aboard USS Pearl Harbor on Nov. 25. Sanchez, a Turlock native, is 20 and serves with Combat Logistics Battalion 11. The battalion is the combat logistics element for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit that embarked with the USS Makin Island, USS New Orleans and USS Pearl Harbor in San Diego on a seven-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Middle East regions.

A recurring theme at the opening night of the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock — the 107th edition of the annual event — was the heat. Sure, it's not 108 degrees like last year, but 102 on Friday afternoon wasn't too far off.
