Members of the Turlock City Fire Department painted two goalie boxes on Friday in hopes of delivering the donated sports equipment to Wakefield Elementary School before their Aug. 16 start date.

The goalie boxes along with tricycles, jump ropes, basketballs, footballs and soccer balls will be donated to Wakefield from the city firefighters association out of the $14,550 raised in the Fill the Boot fundraiser that took place in May.

The money raised will also going to other local charities including: Random Acts of Kindness, Turlock Together and the Turlock Recreation Department. One hundred percent of the raised money is going back to the community, said Turlock Fire Captain Frank Salazar at the July 13 Turlock City Council meeting, where he gave an update on their Fill the Boot campaign. Money donated to the Turlock Recreation Department will assist the annual Christmas Light Parade. To contact Maegan Martens, e-mail mmartens@turlockjournal.com or call 634-9141 ext. 2015.
