Local businesses come together for Breast Cancer Awareness
Paint and sip fundraisers set for coming weeks
Salon Rouge breast cancer
Salon Rouge employees show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2017 by wearing the Turlock Firefighters’ signature pink T-shirts that benefit the Bill and Elsie Ahlem Cancer Endowment. The local salon will continue their philanthropic efforts this year by hosting a paint and sip event on Nov. 3 that will benefit cancer patients at Emanuel Medical Center (Photo contributed).

As Turlock residents wear their best pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, three local businesses are doing their part to raise funds for those battling the terrible disease.

In the coming weeks, local “paint and sip” studio Rembrandt & Rosè is partnering with both Jura’s Pizza Parlor and Salon Rouge in Turlock to host fundraisers for breast cancer patients, allowing community members to dine on appetizers, drink some bubbly and paint a fun picture in the spirit of giving back.

“That’s what we’re all about — partnering with local businesses, being a team and working together to make a better community,” Rembrandt & Rosè co-founder Gina Blom said. “We’ve been working hard to plan fabulous events for a wonderful cause, and be a soft place for people to land where they can donate and help.”

Giving back to the community is nothing new for Rembrandt & Rosè. In the last year alone, the business has given back $15,000 to the community and they hope to continue that trend.

Funds raised at the Jura’s paint and sip night will go toward a local breast cancer patient who needs financial help, whether it be for treatment, rent or food. With the purchase of a $45 ticket, attendees will be able to paint a pink flamingo, supplies included, drink pink margaritas and enjoy appetizers.

The idea to host a fundraiser with Rembrandt & Rosè came to Jura’s co-owner Papiola Aghassi after the pizza parlor began serving pink margaritas during the month of October.

“When we ran that special, I kept thinking, ‘What else can I do to raise money for the cause?’” Aghassi said. “We’ve been in the community for such a long time and the community has supported us, so we enjoy supporting the community.”

Aghassi said that Jura’s plans to work with the Emanuel Cancer Center to find a local breast cancer patient in need, but community members who may have someone in mind can contact the restaurant at 209-667-1902 or Rembrandt & Rosè at 209-681-2050. Jura’s paint and sip night will take place starting at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the restaurant, 783 N. Golden State Blvd.

“We would love to pack the house,” Aghassi said.

Local beauty parlor Salon Rouge is also joining in on the fundraising, and will host a paint and sip night of their own with proceeds going toward Emanuel Medical Center for local cancer patients. With the purchase of a $45 ticket, participants can paint a tree with fall leaves in front of a full moon, supplies included, enjoy drinks and appetizers and buy raffle tickets for baskets featuring salon and spa services, skin products and gift cards from local restaurants.

This is the third year in a row that Salon Rouge has come together to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness, esthetician Christina Bermudez said. Last year, the salon gathered over $1,000 for the cause.

“Breast cancer is one thing that hits home for all of us in the salon in one way or another,” Bermudez said. “We just want to give back to the community that’s loyal to us and our salon and helps keep us going every day.”

Salon Rouge hopes to accommodate 50 guests at their paint and sip fundraiser, and there are still tickets available. Their paint and sip event will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the salon, 116 S. Center St.

“Every little bit helps someone,” Bermudez said.
