Local supporters of the Brady Campaign protested outside Congressman Jeff Denham’s office in Modesto on Monday. The Brady Campaign’s goal is to create a safer America by, in part, imposing stricter background checks for gun sales that supporters say will lead to a dramatic reduction in gun related deaths and injuries. The organization was started by Sarah and Jim Brady. Jim served as Press Secretary for Ronald Reagan during which he was shot in the head, leaving him paralyzed for life, during an assassination attempt on President Reagan on March 30, 1981.
