TURLOCK — A man died Tuesday morning after being struck by a Union Pacific train in downtown Turlock, the Turlock Police Department reported.

Turlock Police Department spokesperson Dominique Sanchez said officers responded to a report of a collision at approximately 8:29 a.m. The incident occurred near the intersection of North Broadway and North Front Street.

The man, described only as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Sanchez confirmed the death was self-inflicted and that the man “stepped into the path of the train.”

Multiple railroad crossings were closed during the investigation, including Golden State Boulevard at Fulkerth Road, Front Street at Broadway, and Front Street at Canal Drive. Police and Union Pacific officials urged drivers to use alternate routes and expect delays.

Train service resumed shortly before noon.
