The Delhi woman who went missing after learning of her mother’s death was located in an orchard north west of her home Thursday afternoon, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.
Charlene McCombs was reported missing Wednesday morning from her home in the 9000 block of Merced Avenue in Delhi. Sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie said McCombs left her home between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. after she was told by her brother via phone that their mother had passed away.
When told of her mother’s death, McCombs made some unsettling statements before walking out of her home, leaving the front door wide open. It is unknown if McCombs even had shoes on when she left, sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie said.
The sheriff’s department said McCombs appeared to have been wandering the entire time.
The 65-year-old woman was taken to Emanuel Medical Center for medical evaluation. Her medical condition is unknown at this time.
The sheriff’s department mounted a search and rescue operation for the woman, deploying extra personnel, a plane, and search dogs in the quest to find her.
