The California Highway patrol is investigating a motorcycle crash that occurred Monday night just outside of Turlock that claimed the life of the rider.

The CHP has not released the man’s name pending next of kin notification. They have also not released his age or hometown.

The man was riding a 2008 Harley Davidson Sportster southbound on Golf Link Road, shortly after 7 p.m. Monday. Soon after passing Johnson Road, the driver for an unknown reason, allowed the motorcycle to drift off the right side of the road, the CHP reported.

The motorcycle traveled across and irrigation ditch, ejecting the rider off the Harley.

The CHP reported the man landed at the bottom of a canal that held approximately 16 inches of water.

The Harley landed on the opposite side of the canal.

The rider had sustained major injuries and was rushed to Emanuel Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The CHP is continuing to investigate the crash. It is uncertain at this time if alcohol and/or drugs played a factor in the collision.
