No injuries in train, car collision
train versus car
A freight train hit a car stopped on the railroad tracks at Fulkerth Road (CANDY PADILLA/The Journal).

A simple rear-end collision between two vehicles turned into a traffic fiasco when one of the involved vehicles was struck by a train.

Fortunately, no one was in the vehicle at the time and there were no serious injuries. One person was transported to a local hospital with a complaint of pain, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

The collision was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Golden State Boulevard and Fulkerth Road.

The incident began when a vehicle struck the back of a white four-door car, causing damage to the back section.

It’s unknown if the impact pushed the white car onto the railroad tracks or if that is just where it was when struck.

The driver and a passenger got out of the car to deal with the accident, leaving it stopped on the railroad tracks. It wasn’t very long before a train started approaching.

The freight train wasn’t able to stop before hitting the white car, causing significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

The stopped train caused traffic congestion at several intersections in Turlock, Parmley said.
