Sergeant Ashley Verver, formally Ashley Lair, was named Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for the 2nd Battalion 130th Field Artillery in Hiawatha, Kansas.  Sergeant Verver conducted a completive interview and performance process against peers in the battalion. The board included general military knowledge, leadership doctrine, military occupational skill specific questions, drill and ceremony, uniform appearance and bearing, current events and historical knowledge of the regiment.  Verver outperformed her peers and will advance to the brigade completion in November.

Verver graduated from Pitman High School in 2010 and joined the California Army National Guard. Sergeant Verver lives with her husband Gustov Verver at Fort Riley, Kansas.  The Ververs moved to Kansas from California during the summer of 2013.  Verver was promoted to Sergeant upon assignment to Hiawatha in October as Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Specialist. Her duties include maintaining CBRN masks, detection equipment, decontamination equipment and subject matter expert to conduct training and reconnoiter.  Sergeant Verver is also Combat Lifesaver qualified.

Currently, as a mother of two, Verver maintains her membership in the National Guard, is pursuing an Associates of Arts Degree in Administration of Justice  online, volunteers with the Family Readiness Program on Fort Riley,  and competes in cross-fit competitions.
