Better health care in the county’s westside is one step closer to reality following action by the Del Puerto Health Care District Board of Directors.
The board voted at their Tuesday meeting to submit the Master Plan for a new health care campus to the City of Patterson for formal review. The Master Plan outlines the district’s long-term vision for the Patterson health care campus — including detailed site maps, building layouts, and design renderings — representing a major milestone in the effort to expand access to medical services on the westside of Stanislaus County.
“The submission of the Master Plan to the City marks a significant step forward for this project and for our community,” said Dr. Karin Freese, chief executive officer of Del Puerto Health Care District. “This campus is designed to bring high-quality medical, mental health, and senior care services to residents who have long faced barriers to getting the care they need. We’re excited to work closely with the City of Patterson to continue this progress for Stanislaus County’s West Side.”
The approved plan features a thoughtfully designed campus focused on patient well-being, accessibility and community connection. Green spaces, walking paths and tree-lined streets will create a calm, park-like setting that supports healing and wellness. The campus layout makes it easy for patients to navigate between services, from the medical office building and community mental health clinic to senior living and retail amenities.
Located near Las Palmas Avenue and Ward Avenue, the campus will reflect Patterson’s Spanish Colonial Revival architectural style while introducing a modern design that blends seamlessly into the surrounding community.
“As a longtime westside resident, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our community faces in accessing care,” said Albertina Reynoso, promotor(a) supervisor with the Patterson Family Resource Center – Center for Human Services. “This campus will help close that gap by bringing more accessible, community-centered health services to local families.”
The first phase of construction will include the new Del Puerto Ambulance and Administration Center and a primary care and mental health clinic (Combined Clinic), two foundational facilities that will provide expanded emergency services and improve access to essential health care for westside residents. These projects will help meet some of the immediate community needs while laying the groundwork for future phases of the campus, including the development of additional specialty care, senior services, and ultimately, a hospital.
Community input has been central to shaping the vision and design of the campus. Through town halls, local presentations and ongoing outreach, DPHCD has gathered feedback from residents and community organizations to ensure the project reflects the real needs of westside families — from improving children’s mental health resources to addressing transportation barriers and provider shortages.
“Expanding access to local health and mental health care will have a direct impact on our students and their families,” said Patterson Joint Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Reyes Gauna. “When families can get care close to home, students miss fewer classes, parents can stay at work, and our community becomes stronger overall.”
Now that its submission has been approved by the DPHCD Board, the Master Plan for the campus will be reviewed by City of Patterson staff, presented to the Patterson Planning Commission and brought to the City Council for discussion and approval in the coming months.
