Steve Williams, a 24-year veteran of the Turlock Police Department, was promoted to the rank of captain Monday.

Williams, who previously served as a lieutenant, started his career in Turlock as a police explorer in 1988.

Williams is a former member of the Turlock Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team, a Canine Handler, and Field Training Officer. Through the years, Williams has garnered many commendations and awards, including being named Officer of the Year in 2004.

As thousands took to Turlock over the last two weeks for the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair, the absence of a family that was incredibly dedicated to the community and especially its agricultural activities was heavily felt by several attendees. That included members of the Pitman High School FFA chapter.
