Over 100 community members gathered on South Broadway Saturday night, not for the downtown nightlife or a block party, but to unite in prayer for the city and its residents.

The 4th annual Pray Turlock event was a collaboration between Calvary Chapel Turlock, Monte Vista Chapel, Harvest Church, Blessed Hope Assyrian Church and Enclave Community Church.

Congressman Tom McClintock (CA-5) speaks at the Pray Turlock event on Saturday (KRISTINA HACKER/The Journal).

Congressman Tom McClintock (CA-5) also spoke at the event about “the indispensable connection between religious liberty and the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans.”

“…ours is a nation founded on religious liberty. It was designed from the very beginning to be a nation in which all religious beliefs are free to guide and influence the life of our nation. Religion has formed the foundation of American liberty. This is self-evident truth that our fundamental human rights are not a creation of government, but rather a gift from our true Creator. Rather, we create governments to protect these God given rights,” said McClintock.
