Work on Turlock’s new public safety facility took a significant step toward completion Wednesday when the final steel beam was put into place at the top of the structure.

Signed by members of Turlock’s police and fire departments, city officials, ironworkers, and other guests, the last beam was hoisted into the air and secured into place where it should remain for countless years to come.

The estimated $33.6 million project is progressing right on schedule for completion in July 2013, according to WLC Architects, the company overseeing the project. The project had been delayed when some contaminated soil was uncovered, but the run of dry weather has allowed them to catch up.

Once completed, the 57,000-square foot complex will house the police department and fire administration. It will include a 180-foot communications tower, a larger evidence storage facility, a vehicle inspection area and offices for specialized units.

In addition to the names and messages, the beam was inscribed with “MATT 7:24” the Bible verse that reads, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
