Turlockers painted their world purple on Saturday and brought cancer patients a little hope by raising $35,410 for the American Cancer Society through the annual Relay for Life event.

Forty teams and 646 participants walked the track at Dutcher Middle School on Saturday in the 24-hour marathon walk event that remembers those lost to cancer, celebrates cancer survivors and raises funds for cancer research.

This year's top fundraising teams were Diggin' 4 a Cure ($10,035), Pitman High ($5,372) and Turlock High ($3,920). The participants who personally raised the most money for Relay for Life were Cyndi Fletcher ($3,275) and Chris Mizicko ($2,720) from Diggn'4 a Cure and Tyler Saunders ($2,440) from Pitman High.
