The Capital Region Chapter of the American Red Cross, which includes Stanislaus and Tuolumne Counties, is looking for local people who have gone above and beyond in helping their neighbors to honor at the annual Heroes Breakfast.
"In the past our heroes have come from a broad cross section of people. We have doctors, policeman, firefighters, to the person who is passing by an auto accident and decides to help, or the person who gives CPR to someone who has a heart attack in the grocery store," said Red Cross spokesperson Trista Cunningham. "The nominee that really stands out to us will be honored with the county Hero of the Year."
Nominees must live or work in one of the two counties; however the heroic act can have occurred elsewhere and at any time within the past 12 months. Heroes will be recognized in 10 categories including: Animal Rescue, Good Samaritan (senior, adult, youth), Law Enforcement, Medical Professional, Military (Active), Military (Veteran), Professional Rescuer, Workplace, Spirit of the Red Cross and Hero of the Year.
On June 6, these outstanding individuals will be recognized at the annual Heroes Breakfast, held from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in Modesto. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. April 18.
Tickets for the breakfast are $65 and proceeds support the disaster relief services the American Red Cross Capital Region Chapter provides an average of once every 21 hours, as well as training programs that help prepare our community members to respond in times of emergency or disaster
Nominations can be submitted at the Modesto Red Cross office, 1230 6th St., or online at www.redcrosscrc.org/events. For more information contact Rebecca Ciszek at 523-6501 or Rebecca.Ciszek@redcross.org.
