Run for shelter

The Turlock Gospel Mission is holding its first annual “Labor of LOVE” walk-a-thon Sept. 5 at Donnelly Park.

Participants are able to choose whether they would like to walk or run, as well as choose if they want to partake in the 3K or 5K.

“Everyone is welcome at the Labor of LOVE walk-a-thon,” said Rhonda Boucher, director of Finance & Human Resources for TGM. “It’s a family-friendly event that aims to promote healthiness and is a great cause.”

One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the Turlock Gospel Mission, where Turlock’s homeless and hurting are offered shelter and services in the name of Jesus Christ.

“We are very grateful for the support from the community at large,” Boucher said. “We have been very blessed with sponsors that have helped us with this fundraiser and others. It’s so great to have people that support and care for their community.”

The race will begin at 8 a.m. and is expected to last until noon.  Water will be provided at stations throughout the race, and paths for participants will be lined out around the park.

In order to ensure a t-shirt, it is encouraged that participants register online as soon as possible—although competitors are able to sign up the day of the event as well.

Registration for competitors is $25 and teams of four or more people are $15 per individual.

“The more the merrier,” Boucher said. “We are anticipating a good turnout and are looking forward to having this as an annual event.”
