A Hughson teenager was killed in a solo vehicle collision Sunday night in Sonora, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The name of the deceased has not been released.

Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday the 18-year-old and his passenger, Dallas Casqueira, 17, of Hughson were traveling northbound on Forest Road in a 1994 Jeep Wrangler.

For an unknown reason the 18-year-old turned the vehicle to the right, so that it collided with a rock alongside the road and caused the vehicle to overturn multiple times.

Neither teen was wearing a seat belt. Both were ejected when the Jeep rolled over, the CHP reported. The Jeep came to a rest on its side.

Casqueira suffered minor injuries, but was able to walk to a cabin in the nearby area and ask for help.

The 18-year-old was given CPR until paramedics arrived at the scene. Due to the severity of his injuries he was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP stated.

It is not known at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash. The collision remains under investigation.
