Halloween events at the library: The Hilmar Library will hold a Halloween Story Time at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. today at 2001 W. Falke Rd. Costumes are welcome.

The Turlock Library will hold special Halloween-themed Preschool Story Times at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursday at 550 Minaret Ave. Kids are encouraged to dress in non-scary costumes and participate in the Friends of the Turlock Library's Trick-or-Treat Parade. A special craft will follow our Story Time. The parade and craft will follow both the 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Story Times. 

The Denair Library will hold a lollipop ghost craft class for kids at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at 4801 Kersey Rd.

 

Pumpkin Party:  The Carnegie Arts Center is holding a free pumpkin decorating activity, sponsored by Off Center Thrift & Gift, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at 250 N. Broadway in Turlock.

 

Move Your Bones Races: The 8th annual Move Your Bones 5K walk/run, 10K run, 1 mile kids run and 400m fun run for those under 6 will be held starting at 7 a.m. Sunday at Donnelly Park. Runners are encouraged to wear their costumes! Trunk or Treat: First United Methodist Church will hold its 2nd annual Trunk or Treat event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at 1660 Arbor Way in Turlock. Cars will be decorated and treats will be handed out as children go car to car trick or treating.

 

Teen Halloween Party: All teens are invited to attend a Halloween Party hosted by Prodigal Sons & Daughters from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at 352 E. Olive Ave., in Turlock. There will be ghoulish games, freaky food and frightening fun. There will also be a costume contest.

 

Downtown Trick-or-Treat: Children are invited to come to Downtown Turlock from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to trick-or-treat at local businesses.

 

Hughson Trunk or Treat: The City of Hughson will hold its 5th annual Trunk or Treat event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lebright Park, 6937 Fox Rd., in Hughson.

 

Stanislaus State Halloween Gala: Stanislaus State Student Housing will once again welcome local kids for trick-or-treating from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A long-standing Stan State and Turlock tradition, the students go all out with costumes, decorations and, of course, candy.

The shelves are slowly emptying at the Rite Aid on Monte Vista Avenue as the national drugstore chain prepares to close all its locations (KRISTINA HACKER/The Journal).
The shelves at Turlock’s Rite Aid drugstore on Monte Vista Avenue are slowly being emptied and signs posted on the store’s popular Thrifty counter state “No More Ice-Cream” with a cartoon cone sporting a frowny face. An employee of the local drugstore on Thursday confirmed to curious customers that the store will be closing its doors, but he didn’t know exactly when.
