For organizations like the Turlock Gospel Mission the main goal is to help those in need, but right now TGM could use some help for the community.

The most essential part of the Thanksgiving meal — the turkey — has been taken care of for TGM, but they are still in need of all the items for the side dishes. The shopping list includes: 10 10-pound bags of red potatoes; 50 boxes of StoveTop stuffing; 90 cans of yams; 15 pounds of mini marshmallows; 10 pounds of brown sugar; 90 cans of French cut green beans; 50 cans of cream of mushroom soup; 90 ounces of crispy fried onions; 60 cans cranberry sauce; 200 individually wrapped  butter squares; 15 gallons of milk; 5 pounds of butter; 15 pounds of Country Time lemonade drink mix; 200 dinner rolls; 64 ounces of black pepper, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and marjoram; 10 5 gallon jugs of frying oil; 36 9x13 aluminum baking pans; aluminum foil; 5 pounds ground coffee; 400 napkins and 50 garbage bags.

This will be the first Thanksgiving dinner TGM has been able to prepare and serve at their new year-round shelter, which officially opened in January of this year. The facility features an industrial kitchen that will be utilized Thursday morning as volunteers prepare the meal.

This year’s meal service also will include distribution of hygiene products and coats for as many of the guests as can be met.

Anyone willing to make donations of food or hygiene items and new or gently used coats can bring them to the shelter at 437 S. Broadway. Those who would like to volunteer their time on Thursday can sign-up by calling 566-1959.
