Tim Holveck prefers to do his harvesting the old fashioned way by using his draft horses to cut grass in a Denair field.

Holveck, who owns Rolling H Carriage in Denair, rents the field to help produce hay for his 10 horses. He’s been using the unique harvesting method for the past six years. His foray on N. Gratton Road on Tuesday was drawing a few curious onlookers and Holveck was only too happy to explain how the old-time equipment worked.

A recurring theme at the opening night of the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock — the 107th edition of the annual event — was the heat. Sure, it's not 108 degrees like last year, but 102 on Friday afternoon wasn't too far off.
