It’s been just under one month since the Turlock Journal launched the 20 in 2020 challenge, encouraging members of the community to volunteer 20 hours of their time throughout the year in an effort to make Turlock a better place to live, work and visit.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve welcomed dozens of new members to the Turlock 20 in 2020 Facebook group and registered volunteers at the campaign’s official website: Turlock20in2020.com. Thank you to Jaime Smith for uploading a picture of the Westside Work Day under the “Share Your Story” page of the website. We appreciate your participation!

It’s been really amazing hearing from members of the community, including several local elected officials, in support of this cause and partnered with Susan Baudler at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Turlock Irrigation District, Winton-Ireland, Strom and Green and Emanuel Medical Center.

The Journal has also confirmed its first Turlock 20 in 2020 volunteer work day for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 28 at Columbia Park. We plan to get a group together and prepare the spray park feature for the upcoming summer season. If you want to join the work day, please become a member of the Turlock 20 in 2020 Facebook group and RSVP for the event so we know how many people to expect. If you do not have a Facebook account but still want to join, email me at: khacker@turlockjournal.com or call 209-634-9141.

We are planning three other volunteer days throughout the year, but you don’t have to wait to log hours. Please join the campaign at Turlock20in2020.com and let us know how many hours you’ve spent working with one of the many service clubs in town, mentoring a child or driving an elderly neighbor to a medical appointment. All of these actions make our community a great place to be and the Journal hopes that by highlighting all the daily acts of kindness it will start a trend of good will that will overshadow political divisiveness sure to make an appearance this election season.

Take a stand for community and join Turlock 20 in 2020 today!
