Turlock feels the love

Over 700 volunteers hit the community’s streets on Saturday for the fifth annual Love Turlock event, showering the city in good deeds. There were at least 75 projects that took place throughout the day, ranging from yard work for the elderly to house repairs for a single mom.

“We really emphasize those kind of personal projects for those who are overwhelmed and need help,” said lead team member Craig Brooks. “It’s not a hand out, but a hand up.”

According to Brooks, Saturday’s rainy weather didn’t dampen spirits, but rather provided a cooler, more enjoyable working environment for those who volunteered.

The shelves at Turlock’s Rite Aid drugstore on Monte Vista Avenue are slowly being emptied and signs posted on the store’s popular Thrifty counter state “No More Ice-Cream” with a cartoon cone sporting a frowny face. An employee of the local drugstore on Thursday confirmed to curious customers that the store will be closing its doors, but he didn’t know exactly when.
