TURLOCK — The Turlock Fire Department faced a surge of emergency calls on Independence Day, responding to 75 incidents throughout July 4, including a dozen fires and one working structure blaze that displaced five residents.
Officials said fire crews tackled 14 fire-related incidents, including seven vegetation fires, three trash or dumpster fires, and three grass and fence fires that threatened nearby structures. The single working structure fire occurred around 10:40 p.m. in the 2300 block of Trail Way.
Firefighters arriving on scene found flames engulfing an attached garage and starting to spread into the main residence. With support from surrounding agencies through mutual aid, crews brought the blaze under control in about 40 minutes, preventing major damage to the rest of the home.
A total of four engines, one squad, one truck, one battalion chief, two fire investigators, and two chief officers responded to the incident. No injuries were reported, though five people were displaced.
The Stanislaus County Fire Investigation Unit was dispatched and continues to investigate the cause. Anyone with information is urged to contact the unit at 209-525-5537.
Officials credited the coordinated effort of regional fire crews for helping manage the high call volume and complex incidents sparked by holiday celebrations.
