The Turlock Gospel Mission's drive to help the homeless community got a boost this holiday season from a donation by Save Mart.

TGM received a $5,000 grant from Save Mart's C.A.R.E.S. program to help homeless individuals and families. C.A.R.E.S. stands for Community, Arts, Recreation, Education and Sports and focuses on improving lives under these categories. The Save Mart C.A.R.E.S. Foundation closes out the year having approved about $300,000 in grants for all of 2016 to about three dozen non-profits. The award to TGM was announced Nov. 29.

Since 2007, the Turlock Gospel Mission has helped thousands of homeless individuals and families by providing food, shelter and referral services. The Mission is in the midst of building a year-round shelter and operates the Homeless Assistance Ministry, which is open daily.

"Turlock Gospel Mission is very happy to receive this grant from SaveMart C.A.R.E.S. and is committed to utilizing these funds to continue serving the homeless and hurting in our community," TGM Executive Director Christian Curby said.
