Following a worldwide search, local insurance company, GDI Insurance Agency Inc. of Turlock, has been named as the insurance broker to a United Nations Humanitarian Program.

“GDI was appointed because of the type of work we do every day, with and for our clients,” said Grant Davis of GDI Insurance Agency Inc. “We take clients with outstanding open claims and help them secure their family business and wealth, as well as other larger companies we secure shareholder value.”

Appointed as the World Sports Alliance lead insurance broker in October, WSA President Amb Alain Lemieux said that choosing an insurance agency to represent the organization had been a “daunting task which has not been taken lightly.”

According to the WSA, the complexity and variety of risks presented by the diverse range of WSA’s public private partnership projects is often beyond the scope of even many of the largest insurance agencies that were considered.

The program, as part of the United Nations, focuses on eradication of extreme hunger and poverty, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality, reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, insuring environmental stability and creating a global partnership for development.

The first few projects that GDI will be working alongside the program include large diamond and gold mines in South Africa, waste-to-energy and waste-to-power and tires-to-oil, carbon and steel plants, and creating a next-generation scanning security system for large shipment containers and airport security, all in third world countries.

“We have been truly fortunate to find such a rare company and group of individuals,” said Lemieux. “GDI’s accomplishments, its background and the programs it has created leave no doubt that GDI was the right choice for WSA.”

As the lead insurance broker, GDI will be responsible for providing the insurance and performance guarantee products and services required for the successful funding and operation of WSA’s projects throughout the world.

“WSA is proud to have GDI Insurance Agency, Inc. represent its global interests in support of the WSA Social Initiative,” said the WSA. “GDI’s technical skills and work in the area of community safety, attested by a certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the office of U.S. Congressman Jeff Denham and by a Certificate of Recognition from the office of California State Senator Anthony Cannella, is in harmony with WSA’s mission and with the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals.”

The WSA also applauded GDI’s efforts to advocate on behalf of the homeless community, alongside those suffering from drug addiction. Their efforts have helped secure a commitment from the WSA’s Commercial Capital Manager, Curtis Whitney Holdings, Inc., to support the development of a shelter in Turlock.

“It is a real honor for GDI to have beaten out some of the largest insurance providers in the world to obtain this appointment,” said Davis. “With this appointment, I am proud to be able to say GDI is second to none in the world when it comes to risk management, insurance, reducing the cost of insurance, as well as building and securing our clients' wealth.”
