An early morning single car rollover accident on a country road resulted in the death of two Turlock men and injured two others.

The deceased men were identified as Dominic Coelho, 23, and Duarte Nunes, 39, by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

The names of the injured men were released by the California Highway Patrol. Alexander Swanton, 21, of Turlock was the driver and sustained minor injuries. He was taken to Doctors Medical Center. Zachary Baker, 21, of Turlock suffered major injuries and was transported to Doctors Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The collision occurred at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday on Walnut Road, just north of Harding Road, according to the CHP.

Swanton was driving a 2007 Cadillac northbound on Walnut at a speed in excess of 80 mph, according to the CHP.

The CHP report states Swanton made an unsafe turning movement, which caused the Cadillac to veer to the east side of the roadway.

The vehicle rolled several times, ejecting everyone but Swanton, before coming to rest in an alfalfa field east of Walnut Road.

Swanton was the only one in the vehicle wearing a seat belt, the CHP reported.

Coelho and Nunes were pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision remains under investigation, though the CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor.

A recurring theme at the opening night of the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock — the 107th edition of the annual event — was the heat. Sure, it's not 108 degrees like last year, but 102 on Friday afternoon wasn't too far off.
