A woman crossing a street in a Turlock neighborhood Tuesday morning was struck by a pickup truck and critically injured, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The woman sustained life-threatening injuries from the collision and was transported by helicopter to a Modesto hospital. Her current condition has not been released by the police department, nor her name, age and city of residence.

The collision occurred around 8 a.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of English Avenue, near E. Linwood Avenue.

The driving conditions in the residential area were clear at the time of the collision, said Turlock Police Sgt. Neil Cervenka.

The pickup was headed south on English Avenue at an approximate speed of 20 mph when the victim was struck.

Witness statements indicated the victim was lawfully crossing the roadway when she was struck and run over by the pickup.

The female driver of the pickup that struck the woman stopped at the scene and offered assistance, Cervenka said. No other information about the driver has been released.

Investigators do not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. There were witnesses present and the incident remains under investigation.
