Students, faculty, staff and visitors to Stanislaus State’s Turlock campus were on lockdown for just over two hours on Tuesday while police searched for a potential threat.

At 4:38 p.m. Tuesday, University Police responded to a call of a man on campus with a gun. Approximately 13 minutes later, the Turlock Police Department reported that they were assisting UPD in their response, and that there were no reports of shots fired or injuries at the time.

At 4:45 p.m., Stanislaus State, through their StanAlert emergency notification system (ENS), sent out the following message to faculty, staff and students:

“CRITICAL ALERT from Stanislaus State. All people on the Turlock campus SHELTER IN PLACE IMMEDIATELY. Police Activity at Student Center. Officers are on scene. Follow orders of emergency personnel. More information to follow as soon as possible.”

The school posted a similar message on their social media platforms at 5:17 p.m.

TPD posted again on social media channels at 5:45 p.m. that officers remained on the scene assisting with building sweeps and that the campus remains on lockdown as a precaution, and that the public should continue avoiding the area.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, the TPD and UPD put out a joint statement that the lockdown was lifted and after a full sweep of the campus no threat was found.

“Thank you to the campus community for your cooperation. With graduation events ahead, safety remains a top priority. See something, say something,” posted the police departments on their social media platforms.
