Afton Falke
Nov 28, 1930 – Sep 1, 2023
Falke2

Turlock, California – Afton Falke passed on peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, September 1, 2023.

Afton was the seventh of eight children born to Linnie and Glenn Watson of Turlock. She attended Elim Elementary, the two-room Prairie Flower School, and Turlock High.

School was a sanctuary where she developed a love of learning and education.

After graduation, Afton married Walter Falke. She first admired Walt for his “strong character and sincerely decent personality.” He was “adorable.”

They enjoyed 66 years of marriage together before Walt passed on in January 2015. They both passed with a bright assurance of their eternal reunion.

Walt and Afton raised four boys in Hilmar: Scott, Rob, Matt, and Brad. Their home was a blessing—close to family and at the center of their communities.

She loved being a wife, mother, and homemaker.

Afton felt called to do what she could for “God’s little lambs,” and working with children was one of her greatest joys. She served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and continually expressed her gratitude to God for the guidance, strength, and peace He provided in all areas of her life.

After her boys started school she worked with school children in many capacities, completed her degree, and became a credentialed teacher at Elim Elementary.

Her home was a beloved gathering place for friends and family. “Nanny” has been a cherished example to her 15 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren to-date.

She was preceded in death by her two oldest sons, Scott Falke and Rob (Robin) Falke. She is survived by her sons, Matt (Dorothy) Falke of Hickman, Brad (Kristy) Falke of Turlock.

Afton lived a life filled with love and faith. She cultivated the gift of being present and helping those she was with feel valued. She lived gratefully. In reflecting on her life, she agrees with some of the last words her good husband spoke, “I am happy, I am content, I am complete.”

A memorial service will be held on October 7 at 10:00 in Turlock at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4250 Geer Road.
