Alfred P. Baptista
Oct. 12, 1918 Feb. 21, 2010
Baptista
Alfred Baptista was born on Oct. 12, 1918 in Hughson. When he was six months old, his parents, John and Ana Baptista, moved the family approximately a half mile to 4855 Aldrich Road, where Alfred spent nearly all of his remaining years, dying there on Sunday, Feb.  21 surrounded by many family members.
Like many of his generation, Alfred left school at an early age to work on the family farm. He remained a farmer the rest of his life. For 50 years he operated the A&A Dairy with his brother Albert. He and his brothers also operated a commercial harvesting business, Baptista Brothers. For 50 years they harvested dry beans from Ripon to Firebaugh. Many other relatives and friends also worked alongside the brothers and they continue to be fondly remembered by many in the farming community.
In 2008, Alfred and his remaining brothers, Albert and Raymond, were honored by the Hughson Chamber of Commerce and the Hughson Historical Society as long time members of the community. He was also a  member of the Blue Diamond Almond Growers Association and  the SES Portuguese Society.
Alfred had a long, and for the most part, healthy life. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family members.
Alfred is survived by daughters, Patti Baptista, Cynthia Baptista, Stephanie (Bill) Mills and Gurli (Marla), (Randy) Dickson; brothers, Albert and Raymond Baptista; sisters, Florence Rose Avelar, Marie Vierra, Mabel Teicheira and Margaret (Maggie) Oliveira; granddaughters, Tiffany (Randy) Christian and Tara Baptista; and great-grand son, Carter Christian.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Baptista; and brothers, Charlie, George, David and Roy Baptista.
Remembrances may be sent to the Hughson Historical Society, P.O. 605, Hughson, CA 95326 or the Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
