Kersey

Arthur Robert Peterson, 90, of Kersey, with his wife Judith and family by his side, passed peacefully from this life at Hospice of Northern Colorado, August 17, 2011. Art was born to Gustav and Hilda Peterson in rural Greeley, Colorado. He graduated from Livingston High School in California and entered the Polytechnic College of Engineering. He left before graduation to serve his country during World War II as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He was imprisoned for 13 months in German prison camps after his plane was shot down during a mission. He was honorably discharged from the service with a rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Art married Judith Tsuki Takaha on March 29, 1949 in Reno, Nevada. He worked as a cabinet maker for a period of time before entering into business with one of his four brothers using tugboats and barges to haul sand and gravel dredged from the San Francisco bay.

However, farming was Art’s first love and he and Judith bought a farm and moved to the Kersey area in 1961. A tireless worker, he proved to be a great provider for his family and they enjoyed growing up in a rural setting.

Art was an active member of the Kersey Community Church. As a believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he desired to see that type of faith develop and grow in his family and others.

Art was a member of the 394th Bombardment Group Association, and belonged to the Northeast Chapter of the American Ex Prisoners of War, American Legion and the V.F.W.

Art and his family want to thank the caregivers and staff of Windsor Health Care Center and the Hospice of Northern Colorado for their care, compassion and concern during the last 2 ½ months.

Art is survived by his wife, Judith Peterson; sons, Brian (Kathy), Littleton, and Glenn (Connie), Windsor; and a daughter, Linda, Chicago, IL. He is also survived by grandchildren, Brittany, Tyler, Christopher (wife Jessica) and Alexis Peterson.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers John, Arvid, Alden and Harold.

A celebration service of Art’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 23rd at the Kersey Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made out to the Kersey Community Church or the Hospice of Northern Colorado. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
