Bakous “Baba” Vartan Chamaki passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9 in Turlock. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 at St. Thomas Assyrian Chaldean Catholic Church in Turlock.  Burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
Baba was born May 9, 1926 in Urmieh, Iran. He and his family first moved to the United States in 1979, and resided in Modesto. Baba found great joy in spending time with family and friends. As a citizen of the US, he was proud of his country, culture, and heritage — always emphasizing the importance of love, unity and patriotism. He enjoyed writing in all forms, especially poetry and lyrics. Baba was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his children, Florence Moradkhan, Juliet Alvagi, Monica Givargis, Sargon Tony Vartan and Frank Vartan; grandchildren, Brad and Benny Moradkhan, Jessica Alvagi, Channele, Chantel and Chereen Givargis, Kristin, Sean and Adam Vartan; and great grandchildren, Aiden, Madison and Liam Moradkhan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shekar Chamaki. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
