Bert R. Prouty, 86, passed away on Dec. 29, 2011 in Modesto, CA. The first born son of Russell and Ethel Prouty, Bert was born in Turlock on July 27, 1925. He lived most of his life on the family property in rural Hughson. He helped with the farming of the fields and ranch animals as a young boy and teenager, continuing to tend to the property and crops until just a few years ago.
Upon returning from his US NAVY service, he started Prouty Trucking and was deeply involved in this business along with his wife Beverley. Prouty Trucking was sold and Bert retired in 1977. He was a national officer for many years in the American Truck Historical Society and was a charter member of the Central California Chapter. He loved trucks, Fords and travelling.
Bert is survived by his daughters Ellen (Bob) Fletcher of Denair, Alice (Tim Tacy) Prouty of Oroville and Rebecca (Jack) Yarnell of Hilmar, as well as a brother, Richard Prouty of Adair, Oklahoma. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Beverley, his son Dale, brother Ernest and parents Russell and Ethel Prouty. 
Burial and Memorial services will take place on Monday, January 9, 2012 at Lakewood Memorial Park & Funeral Home, Hughson, CA. A graveside service with military honors will be at 10:00 AM, with a Memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM. A reception will then follow.
