Carl Ray Grubb was born August 24, 1932 in Turlock California and passed away July 2, 2023 surrounded by his family. Carl lived in Turlock most of his life until recently moving to Samaritan Village in Hughson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Shirley Grubb, sons Mark (Marianne) Grubb and John Grubb; six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred & Jennie Grubb, son Russell Grubb, brothers Fred, Kenny, and Clyde Grubb and sisters Alice Bensen, Pauline Johnson, and June Grubb.
Carl attended Lowell Elementary School and graduated from Turlock High School in 1951. Following high school, he went to work as a lineman for Pacific Bell. He retired from Pac Bell as a construction supervisor after 39 years of service. Also, during this time, he proudly served his country for 2 years, stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
Carl was a community man and belonged to many clubs, which included the Telephone Pioneers, American Legion, Turlock Lions Club, S.I.R.s 143, and All Seasons RV Club. He not only belonged to these clubs he was an outstanding member. His notable honors were Lion of the Year in 2008 and 2013 and Big Sir in 2000, but one that he was most proud of was Turlock Humanitarian of the Year in 2001. Carl loved being a part of and helping his community from ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, volunteering with the Westside Ministries to helping construct parking barriers at Pedretti Fields. He also was part of the informal donut shop group and the Tuesday sales yard bargain hunters.
Carl enjoyed being with family, camping, fishing, playing games, doing puzzles, and basketball (playing in younger years and watching in older years). He was the heart of his family and always had a sweet treat or a big hug for anyone. He loved to make people smile as could be attested by all the people who drove by his house every December to see the display of Christmas lights that got brighter each year!
Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, July 29th at 10:00 am at the Turlock Memorial Park and Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Westside Ministries or your favorite charity.
