Charles Walter Hansen passed on September 17, after a short illness at the age of 93. Charlie was born in Lompoc, Ca on October 6th 1923 to Walter and Mildred Hansen, graduated from Santa Ynez High School in 1941, and served in the Army during WWII from 1944 to 1945 in the Philippines. Charlie then moved to Patterson, CA in 1947 and started farming with Rube and Dean Houk.  Charlie married his sweetheart Lois Traver in 1951 and together they raised four children in Patterson. Charlie farmed on his own for 50 years in the Westley and Patterson areas. After retirement Charlie and Lois have lived in Samaritan Village for the last 11 years where he still maintained a small garden and supplied vegetables to all their friends.  

Charlie was preceded in death by his sister Mary Tognazzini, and is survived by his wife Lois of 67 years, sister Dorothy Alter, children: Susan Petersen (Cliff), Stephen Hansen, Patricia Verano and Joan Klopping (Mike), 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who all called him Poppy. 

Charlie was a longtime member and past-president of the Patterson Lions Club, Westan Growers, West Side Hulling, and an advisory board member for Diamond Walnut Growers.   A celebration of life will be held at Samaritan Village in Hughson, on October 6th, Charlie’s 94th birthday, at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Patterson Lions Club, Patterson High School FFA, or the Alexander Cohen Hospice House.
