A memorial service for Chris Habelt, 39, of Oakdale, will be held at 2:30 p.m. July 23 at Modesto Covenant Church, 913 Floyd Ave., Modesto. Chris Habelt died Monday in Oakdale.
Chris was born in Walnut Creek and grew up in South Lake Tahoe and Modesto. As a young man, he started his own concrete business. He became a general contractor and owned Habelt Concrete Construction for several years.
Chris was a wonderful husband, father and son. He was smart, kind and gentle; he would help anyone that needed a hand at any time. He enjoyed
water-skiing, fishing and activities with his boys. Chris loved his family and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with “his boys.” They have many happy memories of times together at Mission Springs.
Chris is survived by his wife, Sonja, and their three boys, Trent, Chad and
Tate, all of Oakdale; his mother and step-father, Dori and Charles Lockett of
Modesto; step-mother, Nita Habelt of Texas; parents-in-law, Jim and Berma Lynn Blomquist of Riverbank; sisters, Stacey (Chris) Markese of Modesto, Shane Lockett of Oakdale and Kristy (Bill) Scherbak of Markleeville; sister-in-law, Susan (Francis) Kuehl of Monterey; step-brother, Mark (Robin) Swartz of Denair; nephew, Kyle Courtroul of Modesto; niece and nephew, Devon and Zack Scherbak of Markleeville; uncle and aunt, Emil and Maureen Scarpitti; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Habelt, who was killed in the line of duty while a sheriff in Texas.
