Dean Willis, 61, of Turlock, passed away on Aug. 16. Dean was a bus driver for many years, and he drove buses for Modesto City Schools, Modesto Jr. College and schools in Joplin, Mo. He was dedicated to his job and was the winner of many competitions. Dean was a five-time State Champion of California School Bus Rodeos with two perfect scores and a two-time State Champion of Missouri School Bus Rodeo with one perfect score. He also received the title of National Champion of School Bus Rodeo, while he was a bus driver for city schools of Turlock for four years. Dean also worked as a bus driver for Laidlaw in Modesto, as a trainer for new bus drivers and a supervisor.
Dean is survived by his wife, Christelle Willis of Turlock; son, Chad Dean Willis of Turlock; daughter, Michelle Dee Ann Helton of Joplin, Mo.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Maxine Willis; and brother, Donnie Willis.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 23 at Sunnyside Cemetery, 2872 Cemetery Rd., Stevinson. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery.
