Doug Freeby, 69, of Anoka was born in the Armistice Day blizzard of 1940 in rural Anoka to Harold and FloDella Freeby. He lived most of his life in the Anoka area, graduated from Anoka High School in 1958, enlisted and served eight years in the U.S. Navy, and married Beverly Hjelmberg in November 1960. They were sweethearts for over 50 years!  Doug served the City of Anoka for 32 years including the Anoka/Champlin Fire Department for many years. He actively and faithfully served in leadership in churches where they attended.
Doug is survived by his wife, Bev, of Ramsey; sons, Mark (Sandy) Freeby of Andover, Mike (Tammy) Freeby of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Steve (Liz) Freeby of Elk River.; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother, Ken (Sylvia) Freeby of Turlock; and sisters, Shari (Dave) Lindstrom of Oak Grove and Sandi (Judd) Kile of Otsego.
There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Doug at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6 at Constance Evangelical Free Church, 16150 Crosstown Blvd. NW, Andover, Minn.
