Cleatus was born in Kings Mill, Arkansas to Noah and Dollie Lewis. At the time of his passing at age 79, he was at home surrounded by his family.
Cleatus grew up in Turlock and graduated from Turlock High School in 1951. He married his wife of nearly 60 years, Leona, on Feb 2, 1952. He served in the Army Medical Corp from 1953-1955. After the Army, Cleatus studied at Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, IN, graduating in 1959. He entered into practice on Oct 1, 1959 and practiced for 40 years in Modesto, retiring in 1999. In addition, he was very involved in his church family and served as an elder at Davis Park Church of Christ for 19 years.
Cleatus was a beloved husband, father, grand father and great grand father. He is survived by his loving wife, Leona Lewis. Son Cleatus Aubrey and former wife Janene Hasson-Lewis of Modesto. Son Phillip and wife Margie of Corning. Son David and wife Cathy of Coulterville. Seven beautiful grand children Brian Lewis and wife Bree, Crystal Lewis, Stephanie Lewis and Edward Evenson, Amber Lewis, Devin Miller and husband Jason, Johnathan Lewis and wife Tammy, Andrea Lewis and Nathan Bradford. Three great grand children McKenna Lewis, Michelle Lewis, and Ian Lewis. One sister Arneal Allen and husband Oren, and two brothers Eldon Lewis and wife Evelyn, and Dale Lewis and wife Sandi. Cleatus was preceded in death by his parents Noah and Dollie Lewis, and one sister Wilma Jean Lewis.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct 24 from 5-7pm at Franklin & Downs, 1050 McHenry Avenue in Modesto. Private services for the family will be at Lakewood Memorial Park, followed by a Celebration of Life service at Davis Park Church of Christ, 901 W. Rumble Road in Modesto at 2:00 pm.
