Cherished mother, grandmother (Omi), wife and friend to many, Elke Weiglein passed peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025 after a long illness. Born in 1940, Elke came to California in the early 1960s to explore the world before returning to her small town in Germany, Osterholz-Scharmbeck, to continue her path. Fate introduced her to future husband, Bob Weiglein, who was involved in the vibrant German community clubs of his young adult life in Turlock and Modesto. Married for 48 years before Bob’s passing in 2012, they raised two boys in Turlock, giving them many opportunities and frequent extended stays in Germany with family, deepening the connection to their heritage and the understanding of our small world. The connection to both maternal and paternal family relatives and close friends in both California and Germany provided a solid base to raise her children. Elke lived a full life, enjoying tennis, walking or running 10ks with friends, cheering her kids and grandkids on at sporting events, and serving her popular chocolate cake after games for her kids’ and grandkids’ teams. Elke participated actively in Bob’s career as well, getting to know everyone in his business community, traveling the world with him. Elke is survived by her sons, Kristian(Tammy) and Andre (Susan); and six grandchildren, Lindsey, Kaitlyn, Emily, Madison, Ryan and Dylan.
A private family celebration will be held at her son’s home in Pleasanton, California in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Care Home Health & Hospice in Turlock, California.
