Eloyce Arlene (Crum) Johnson
November 1917 September 2009
Johnson-Eloyce
Eloyce Johnson, 91, of Turlock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sept. 29, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 10 at Monte Vista Chapel.
Eloyce was born in Welcome. Minn. on Nov. 27, 1917, to Roy and Mary Edna Crum. Eloyce’s family moved back to their Iowa farm around 1921. She graduated from Griswold High School in 1935, with a Normal Teaching Credential. In December of 1935, she married her high school sweetheart Allen Johnson. The winter of 1935-1936 was very bad in Iowa. They came to California to find work in the summer of 1936. Allen became a successful dairyman and they never returned to Iowa.
Eloyce loved being a farmer’s wife and entertaining. There was always family visiting and the many Holstein dairymen and their families. She loved raising her family and had a big part in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1960, she returned to school and obtained her California Teaching Credential from CSU Stanislaus. She taught in the Chatom and Ballico-Cressey school districts. She was a member of the California Teachers Association and a charter member of Monte Vista Chapel.
Eloyce is survived by her son, Roy (Doris) Johnson of Denair; daughters, Mary (Bill) Humphrey of Turlock, Barbara (Carl) Carlton of Turlock and Judy (Leon) Dorton of Oregon City, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and three sisters, Helen Cunningham of Stockton, Donna Glee Lees of Johnstown, Colo. and Betty Schuler of Villisca, Iowa.
She is preceded in death by her son, James Jay Johnson; siblings, Donald Crum and Dorothy Schmiedt; and one grandchild.
At Eloyce’s request, memorial donations may be made to Westside Ministries: P.O. Box 354, Turlock, CA 95381.
