Ernestine Adele Cassino Wingo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great–grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 19th, at the age of 93, with her children by her side. Known to all as “Ernie” she was born in Gilroy, California, and moved to Modesto as a young girl. After graduating from Modesto High School in 1950 she attended Modesto Junior College where she met her husband of 56 years, Nolan Wayne Wingo. After marrying in 1953 they lived in Fresno and Livingston before setting down roots in Turlock at the house on Berkeley Avenue that would become the family home for over 60 years.

Always one to seek out new challenges, she enrolled at Stanislaus State College, earning her Bachelor’s degree in 1977. It was only a few years later that she began her decades–long real estate career. Throughout her years with Wayne they enjoyed their passions of gardening, “garage saleing”, spending time with friends and family, and the much anticipated yearly camping trips. After Wayne’s death in 2010 she continued to stay active with the Modesto Garden Club, tai chi classes, local concerts and other community events.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, and sister Elaine Makarounis. She is survived by her three children, Brian (Debbie) of Tracy, Greg (Cindy) of Seattle, and Barbara (Dana) of San Mateo, grandchildren Sarah, Megan (Steve), Natalie, Matthew and Alessandro, and great–granddaughter Charlotte. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Modesto Garden Club, www.modestogardenclub.org/donate. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 21st at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd.
