Evert Raymond Jones passed away peacefully May 24, 2023, at his home in Sandy Utah.

Evert was born to Ray and Maxine Jones on December 5, 1936, in Thermopolis Wyoming, the oldest of three boys.

Evert graduated from Hot Springs County High School in 1954 and attended the University of Utah where he was an All-Conference Lineman on the Utes Football Team.

Following graduation in 1958, Evert was drafted into the National Football League by the Pittsburgh Steelers and, though he ultimately didn’t play professional football, he dedicated his career to coaching football in high school, junior college, and college.

Evert married the love of his life, Pamela Reese, on April 21, 1959, and they were later sealed in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Evert and Pam have three children Michael, Daniel, and Sara.

Evert began his career as a head football coach and teacher at Jordan High School (Utah) before moving to Lompoc California to lead the football program at the newly opened Cabrillo High School.

After nine successful seasons at Cabrillo, he returned to Utah to coach football at his alma mater the U, before returning to California as the head football coach at Turlock High School.

Evert loved the skill, teamwork, discipline, and athleticism of football and inspired many young men. It was common years, and even decades, later for Evert to receive a letter, phone call, or visit from former players who expressed their admiration and gratitude for all he taught them.

Evert’s second love was playing golf, a love he shared with his son Dan and grandson Danny. No matter where Evert lived, he had many close golfing buddies who were dear friends. Evert and Pam enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, vacationing at the beach or the Tetons, playing Bridge, and having fun with good friends.

Evert is survived by Pam, his loving wife of 64 years, son Dan (Beckie), daughter Sara, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and his brother Bill.

Evert is pre-deceased by his oldest son Michael, with whom he was anxiously awaiting a happy reunion, and his younger brother Hilan.

Evert served as a bishop and high council member, he and Pam served as missionaries at the Sandy Employment Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Evert had a strong faith in his Savior Jesus Christ and was a great example to his family.

A memorial to celebrate his life will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Evert’s name to the Primary Children’s Hospital at:https://bit.ly/3OLSSXW
