Gary Dale Smith was born on Feb. 11, 1943 in Modesto to Dale and Martha Smith and died July 23, 2010 in Fayetteville, Ark. at the Veteran’s Hospital.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served our country in the Vietnam War. He was a firefighter and emergency medical technician for Stanislaus County. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Poteau, Okla.
Gary enjoyed reading and taking road trips. He did not enjoy flying and preferred to drive everywhere he went, whistling a song as he drove.
He is survived by wife, Debi Smith of Poteau, Okla.; daughters, Sheri Shonk of Independence, Iowa, Kimberly Smith of Stockton, Calif. And Sandra Thornberry of Waterford, Calif.; and son, Dale Smith of Poteau, Okla.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 9 at Lakewood Memorial Sunrise Garden, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson.
