Gene Everett Ocken, 77, of Rancho Cordova, CA, died suddenly as a result of a fall. Gene was born in Turlock, CA to Orson J. Ocken and Florence E. Ocken (Downing). He grew up in Turlock and graduated from Turlock High School in 1953. After 4 years of service in the Air Force where he was a medic and star softball pitcher, he returned home where he met and married Betty (Males) Nelson on Sept 25, 1965. Together they lived in many places, from the central valley of California to northern Oregon, and raised 3 daughters along the way.  Gene was an airplane pilot, a Licensed Vocational Nurse, and retired as a Worker’s Compensation Fraud investigator. He loved fishing, golfing, telling tales, dancing, and making silly jokes and pulling pranks.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Jane M. Pugh. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ocken of Rancho Cordova, his children, Karyn L. Ross and Robert L. Ross of Mather, Michelle A. Ocken and Avanti Centrae of Chico and Grass Valley, and Kimberley S. Remen and Charle Remen of Sacramento, and his only grandchild, Lilly V. Remen.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the VFW at 8990 Kruitof Way, Fair Oaks, CA (Next to Phoenix Park) 916-966-1663.  In lieu of flowers, we request that you may consider making a donation to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, as this was a favorite charity of Gene’s.
